How process indicator work

A process indicator receives electrical signals from sensors or transmitters and converts them into engineering values such as °C, bar, m³/h or %. SUPMEA process indicators support inputs including 4–20 mA, voltage, thermocouples and RTDs, depending on the model. The measured value is processed and shown on the local display for continuous monitoring.

Optional functions can include high/low relay alarms, analog retransmission, RS485/RS232 communication and Modbus RTU for connection to PLC or SCADA systems. Dedicated models can also totalize flow or heat, while PID controllers provide control outputs to regulate process variables with configurable setpoints. These functions allow one panel instrument to combine indication, alarm, communication and control tasks in industrial applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a process indicator?

A process indicator is a panel-mounted instrument that receives a sensor or transmitter signal and displays the corresponding engineering value. Selected models also provide alarms, transmission outputs, communication, totalizing or PID control.

Input capability depends on the model. Available options include thermocouples, RTDs, resistance, current, voltage, frequency and standard transmitter signals.

A process indicator mainly displays and monitors a measured value. A PID controller also compares the measured value with a setpoint and adjusts an output to regulate the process.

Yes. The product range includes single-loop, dual-loop and 8–16-loop controllers.

Selected models support RS485 or RS232 communication. Modbus-RTU is available on specific products and configurations.

Selected models support relay alarms and analog retransmission, including 4–20 mA and other configurable signals.
