How ultrasonic flowmeters work
Frequently Asked Questions
What liquids can transit-time ultrasonic flowmeters measure?
They are best suited for full pipes containing relatively clean, homogeneous liquids with limited bubbles or suspended solids.
What is the difference between transit-time and Doppler measurement?
Transit-time uses upstream and downstream sound travel times. Doppler uses echoes reflected by suspended particles in moving water.
Does a clamp-on ultrasonic flowmeter require pipe cutting?
No. Clamp-on transducers are mounted outside the pipe, allowing installation without cutting the pipeline or stopping the process.
Which model is suitable for temporary flow testing?
The SUP-2100H handheld model is designed for portable flow surveys, commissioning and comparison measurements.
Which model is suitable for continuous monitoring?
SUP-1158S and SUP-FSC400 are designed for fixed, continuous liquid-flow monitoring.
Can Supmea ultrasonic flowmeters measure heating or cooling energy?
Selected FSC400 configurations support heat measurement when used with suitable temperature sensors.
Can an ultrasonic flowmeter measure open-channel flow?
Yes. SUP-FSD300 measures flow velocity, liquid level and temperature in channels, streams, rivers and selected pipelines.
